Sherwin Mackintosh
Sherwin Mackintosh spent 17 years in the ministry for the New York City Church of Christ where he later served as an Elder. He helped in the formation of the Arts Region or “Daytime Zone” for people in the Entertainment industry. During those 17 years, he also worked as a Musical Director and Producer in New York City. He produced shows at many major venues, including Madison Square Gardens, the Beacon Theater, Town Hall, and Harlem’s Apollo Theater. He has worked in such diverse situations, including producing a gospel choir for the opening of the Spring Fashion Show for DKNY/Donna Karen and producing a dot com inauguration party in the Egyptian wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

He has performed on Broadway playing Keyboard I with the musical, “The Scarlet Pimpernel” and made his Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall playing piano with soprano, Sherrie Curtis Seidon. He is a member of ASCAP and has had his works performed at the Boston Opera House, Madison Square Gardens, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, throughout Europe and as far away as Manila, Philippines and most recently in Moscow, Russia. He was commissioned to write a “Patriotic Tribute” for the memorial services of Governor Lawton Chiles and also directed the choir for the memorial of John F. Kennedy, Jr. He was active in producing memorial services for the families of the victims of 9/11, notably at Madison Square Gardens for the families of Firefighters who had lost their lives.

He has co-written two musicals with longtime friend and writing partner, Steve Johnson, “Upside Down” and “Slingshot” that were performed in New York, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Manila and Moscow. Sherwin and his wife, Debbie have traveled literally around the world holding music workshops on all seven continents, including Hong Kong; Sydney, Australia; Johannesburg, South Africa; Moscow, Russia; Nairobi, Kenya; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Sao Paulo, Brazil; London, England; New Delhi, India; and Paris, France. He also served as the Music Editor for the songbook, “Songs of the Kingdom,” contributing many songs and arrangements as well. He has collaborated with New York writer, Shari Cabelin, on numerous projects including the HOPE Youth Corps “Story Tree Gang.” He has also worked with New York married powerhouse Winston & Cjay Philip on various projects, including Teresa Brown’s album, “Holiday Souvenirs,” of which he co-wrote the title song.

Sherwin received his Master’s degree from New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. He met his wife, Debbie, in Gainesville, Florida while pursuing his undergraduate degree in Piano at University of Florida where he graduated with Honors. They are now celebrating their 30th Anniversary. Their daughter, Carrie, married Jersey boy, Dr. Jason Kelsey and have two children, Jackson and Clara, making Debbie and Sherwin the youngest (and proudest) grandparents in history. Their son, Chase, just married his high school sweetheart, Sarah Dardis, and is about to graduate from University of Florida with a double degree in Vocal Performance and Political Science. Sherwin currently works with the University of Florida as the director of the new Performing Arts Center at the P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School while pursuing his Doctorate in Music Education. He was recently appointed as an Elder for the Gainesville Christian Church.
